The Central Election Committee does not rule out that local elections in Ukraine-controlled areas of Donbas could actually take place. This is mentioned in the message by the Committee's press service.
For this to happen, civil and military administrations in Donetsk and Luhansk regions should provide new conclusions on this matter; these bodies have the authority to make conclusions, based on which the Committee approves the elections in these specific areas.
Based on the previous conclusions, the Central Election Committee passed the decree, according to which the local elections in ten specific territorial communities were impossible.
"Security situation could change, and if the Committee gets new conclusions (...) before the electoral process in the regular local elections begins, the elections could take place on October 25, 2020".
In this case, conclusions concern 10 rural and urban territorial communities in the Donetsk region and eight more in the Luhansk region, as well as five separate polling stations in the Novoaidar settlement community in the Schastya district in Luhansk region.
