The Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced the start of the electoral campaign for the upcoming local elections - September 5. This was reported by the press service of the CEC.

The decision was made to comply with the requirements of the Electoral Code of Ukraine.

The Commission amended its resolution of August 8, 2020 №163 "On the calendar plan of the main organizational measures for the preparation and holding of local elections on October 25, 2020", publishing this calendar plan in a new version.

As we reported earlier, Ukraine is expected to hold local elections on October 25. According to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, will be held with certain restrictions due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

"It is obvious that the upcoming elections will be held against the background of certain restrictions due to coronavirus infection, and now we need to think over mechanisms, procedures, and funding to protect Ukrainians and give them the opportunity to freely vote for candidates," he said.

The CEC is also ready to make every effort in order to ensure that local elections are held safely and in accordance with the requirements of Ukrainian law.
