The possibility to become EU member is real for Ukraine and it depends on the efforts of the country. Dalia Grybauskaite, the President of Lithuania claimed this at the interview to the Lithuanian radio and TV.
Grybauskaite noted, talking about the European strivings of Ukraine that in due time, Lithuania could not imagine that it will be a full member of the EU in ten years after the beginning of the negotiations on the membership.
‘I think that it is real for any country. Everything depends on its inner development, external circumstances and a political window that opens at the historical turnings’, she noted.
Also, Grybauskaite noted that the mobilization of all efforts of the country is significantly necessary for this way.
‘This hope should be preserved for the Ukrainian nation. It is our duty to help them in the achieving of these goals’, the president noted.
At the same time, she expressed the hope that there will be no contradictions between the European goals and future of Ukraine.
Ukraine signed the Association Agreement with the EU in 2014 after the Revolution of Dignity. The Agreement was ratified by the Ukrainian Parliament, European Parliament and national parliaments of all EU countries during 2014-2017.
On Friday, September 1, the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement entered into full force and effect, as foreseen by the respective statement earlier released by the EU. Later Petro Poroshenko noted that Ukraine’s Association Agreement with the European Union is fulfilled only for 15%.
