Lithuanian special forces expect provocations during joint military training of Russia and Belarus scheduled for autumn. This was stated in the annual report of the Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania.

The document states that Russia remains the greatest threat to Lithuania, in particular, because of the concentration of Russian military forces at the Lithuanian border and the conduct of intelligence operations. Due to this, Lithuanian special forces say that an armed conflict with NATO could be included in the scenario of such military exercises.

“Systematically, Belarus depends on Russia, which threatens Lithuania's national security. Russia is working to increase the level of influence in Belarus, and, first of all, in the military sphere. And in case of conflict with NATO, Russia can use its leverage in Belarus on neighboring countries,” the report says.

Since Russia is strengthening military positions in the Western part of the country and in Kaliningrad region, it will not be difficult to start military operations against the Baltic countries within 24-48 hours, according to the document.
