Lithuania and Latvia do not recognize the results of the so-called local elections in annexed Crimea and Sevastopol, and also confirm their support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The relevant statements were made by heads of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Latvia, Linas Linkevičius and Edgars Rinkevich on Twitter.
"Lithuania does not recognize today's" elections "in Crimea and Sevastopol, illegally annexed by Russia. We reaffirm our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and condemn the Russian occupation of Crimea and the violation of international law," Linkevičius stated.
The Latvian Foreign Minister also confirmed that Riga does not recognize the local elections held in the illegally occupied and annexed by Russia Crimea and Sevastopol.
“I reaffirm our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Rinkevich wrote.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on international partners to give a principled assessment of Russia's illegal actions to organize and conduct the so-called "local elections" in occupied Crimea and to increase pressure on the Russian Federation.
"New violations of international law by the Russian Federation indicate the need not only to continue but also to strengthen international political and economic pressure on the Russian Federation in order to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine, including in the form of restrictive measures related to the occupation of Crimea," the statement said.
