Parliamentarian Heo Leros is being pressed charges over showing an obscene gesture in the Verkhovna Rada, the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation reports.

"On November 11, 2021, on behalf of the Acting Prosecutor General, a written notice of suspicion was handed to the Member of Parliament of Ukraine for gross violation of public order in the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine," the message reads.

The investigators, as part of the criminal proceedings, found that on November 4, 2021, the MP, speaking from the parliamentary rostrum, spoke insultingly about senior government officials. However, he did not respond to the remarks of the chairman at the meeting, continued such actions even after turning off the microphone at the discretion of the chairman. Realizing that the speech would not be recorded by the media, he showed an obscene gesture, showing contempt for the generally accepted norms of morality and social environment.

In these actions of the MP the purpose of the elected representative is clearly traced - to create own media and political image, to increase own media recognizability, to draw attention of mass media, society and other politicians to the person.

At the same time, the parliamentarian abused his powers as a Parliamentarian of Ukraine to speak during the discussion of the candidacy of a member of the government.

He is suspected of gross violation of public order on the grounds of obvious disrespect for society (Part 1 of Art. 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction of the article provides for a fine of up to 4 thousand non-taxable minimum incomes or arrest for up to 6 months, or restriction of liberty for up to 5 years.

The pre-trial investigation is underway, the issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being resolved.

As it was reported, on November 4 during plenary session to which the president arrived, Leros showed him a middle finger and called the main traitor in the country. The Parliamentarian wanted to continue his speech, but his microphone got turned off.

Leros later explained that he had shown his middle finger not only to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but also to the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak.
