Law on Accusers of Corruption enters into force in Ukraine

Law No. 198-IX on the Accusers of Corruption entered into force today, January 1.
From now on, the accuser is a person who was convinced of the accuracy of the information and reported possible corruption or corruption-related violations. The accuser provide information received in connection with his job, economic, social activities or the service.

Those accusers who have reported a corruption crime with damage of more than 5 thousand subsistence minimums for able-bodied persons (according to estimates as of today it is 10 135 000 UAH or 405 000 USD) will be rewarded.

The amount of remuneration is 10% of the amount of damage, but not more than 3 thousand minimum wages (in 2020 this is 14 169 000 UAH or 567 000 USD).

The final amount of remuneration is determined by the court, taking into account the importance and personality of the information (this is when the whistleblower is personally aware of a corruption crime, the relevant data should not be public).

Among other things, the accuser has the right to free legal assistance in connection with the protection of his rights; on confidentiality; to ensure the safety of himself and relatives in case of a threat to life and health; to reimburse expenses in connection with the protection of rights; exemption from legal liability for disclosure of information. Rights and guarantees for the protection of whistleblowers also apply to their relatives.
