Mayor of Kyiv Vitaly Klitschko will visit Washington at the invitation of the International Republican Institute (IRI) at the beginning of May. Klitschko will participate at the solemn event dedicated for the commemoration of Senator John McCain, as his press service reported.
Besides, a number of famous American politicians will deliver a speech at the event.
The senator, who has been heading IRI for 25 years, would get National Endowment for Democracy award posthumously. Besides, the people of Venezuela will get the special award of the IRI for aspiration to freedom and democracy.
Kyiv Mayor will meet U.S. Special Envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker, USAID leadership, leaders of the IRI and other influential American politicians.
Earlier one of central Kyiv streets – Ivana Kudri Street – has been renamed into John McCain Street, after the late American Senator.
Senator John McCain died on August 25, 2018, after a long struggle against cancer. He was famous as a war hero, a critic of authoritarian regimes and a powerful friend of Ukraine.
