Kremlin spokesman urges not to overestimate expectations from Normandy summit

Peskov warned that deviation from the Minsk agreements could lead to unpredictable consequences in the settlement of Donbas conflict

Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary of the Russian President reiterated it is necessary to pass a law on the special status of Donbas as part of the Minsk agreements, and urged not to overstate expectations from the Normandy Summit. TASS reported this.

“The law on special status (of Donbas, - 112 International) is an integral part of the Minsk agreements. The decision, let’s say, to drift towards some other document is fraught with very great difficulties, the consequences of which are unlikely for anyone to predict," Peskov said.

The Kremlin speaker urged not to overestimate expectations from the upcoming summit of the Normandy Four leaders in Paris, but expressed hope for a meaningful conversation.

Dmitry Peskov also said that the presidents of Russia and Ukraine plan to discuss the gas contract during the meeting on December 9 in Paris.

 
Scheduled for December 9 Normandy format meeting of the countries' leaders will be held in the Palais de l'Élysée in Paris. This was reported by the French presidential administration press service.
 
"Palais de l'Élysée confirmed that the summit on the Ukrainian issuewill be held in Paris on December 9, 2019. It will be attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky," the statement said.
 
Russian agencies TASS and RIA Novosti, citing the French side, report that the meeting will begin "in the early hours of the afternoon" and will last until the evening. The detailed program of the summit was promised to be announced later.
 
It is expected that the presidents of Russia and Ukraine Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky will meet face to face for the first time.
