Mother of the Ukrainian political prisoner in Russia Oleksandr Kolchenko can visit her son and spend three days with him in a Russian colony. Russian Interfax reported this with the reference to the regional Public Supervision Committee.
“The relatives were allowed to stay together for three days. For a more comfortable stay, they were given a room in the hotel of the penitentiary facility,” the message reads.
It is noted that during the meeting of Public Supervision Committee and Larysa Kolchenko, there were no claims or complaints from her side. It is reported that after a hunger strike, the Ukrainian political prisoner has gained his initial weight, - 64 kg. He did not voice any complaints.
“He asked for an opportunity to continue studies in the higher institution. Until recently, he has been studying for free in the Tavrida National V.I. Vernadsky University. However, the studies were suspended because the prisoner had not submitted a new contract to the colony’s administration. When the contract is submitted, Kolchenko will continue his studies. He does not want to work in the colony because, as he says, he spends a lot of time on self-education,” the Public Supervision Committee representative said.
As it was reported earlier, Russian special service detained Kolchenko and Sentsov in May of 2014 in Crimea. They were accused of preparing terrorist attacks on the peninsula. In summer of 2015, Kolchenko was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, Sentsov – to 20. Both of them deny their guilt.
