The first day of Atlas Weekend music festival was free thanks to the city hall support. Mayor of Kyiv Vitaly Klitschko stated it on today press-conference before opening the fest, the press service of city head reports.
“I am very pleased with the fact that in the next six days, Kyiv will become a European music center. The city government financed the first day of the festival to give an opportunity to join the music holiday for everyone who wishes to do so. The topic of the first day of the festival is Ukrainian music.
Sofia Rotaru, Pavlo Zibrov, SKAI and ONUKA bands, DZIDZIO, Zlata Ognevich and others will perform tonight,” Klitschko stated.
On the following days, children under 12, pensioners, disabled persons of first and second categories, combat veterans (with proper IDs) will have the right of the free entrance. Special platforms for comfortable watching were made for people in wheelchairs. Klitschko emphasized that no Ukrainian festival can boast of such entry list expected this year, with The Black Eyed Peace and Asap Rocky on the list. The winner of Eurovision-2018 Netta and more than 250 Ukrainian and foreign singers and bands will perform on Atlas fest. Organizers fixed 8 platforms on the territory of Expocenter of Ukraine, where exponents will perform according to music styles.
“Many tourists visit Atlas Weekend. This is a great advantage for our city and country. This year we expect a new record of visiting the festival. 154,000 visitors visited the fest on its first day last year. And more than half a million of people visited the event on all days,” the mayor of the Ukrainian capital noted.
Klitschko visited some of the locations of the festival and talked to the visitors of the music event. The mayor claimed, that as in the previous year the city government accepted the decision to continue the work of public transport to one hour longer, including subway to get home comfortably after having enjoyed music.
Atlas Weekend is one of the biggest music festivals in Eastern Europe. It is held annually in Kyiv in the first half of July since 2015.
