One of the main questions of interest of European and American politicians during meetings at the Munich Conference with Ukrainian politicians is what the final presidential elections in Ukraine will be like and what is the situation on the eve of these elections. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, said this in a comment to journalists on the sidelines of the 55th Munich Security Conference, the mayor’s press service reports.
Klitschko took part in the official opening of the conference, and also met with the European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy Johannes Khan, Special Representative of the US State Department for Ukraine Kurt Volker, Head of the Christian Democratic Party of Germany Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer.
“Our international partners are hoping for stability in Ukraine, for presidential elections to be held without shocks and turbulence. After all, the future development of Ukraine over the next five years will depend on their results,” Klitschko said. “According to my impressions, the current balance of power among candidates became unexpected for our partners. Therefore, there are a lot of questions about the chances of different candidates, their potential,” Klitschko said.
He also said that at the meetings all politicians noted that Europe and the United States are interested in a democratic, economically strong Ukraine with a stable political situation.
“They are interested in exporting stability to Ukraine, not importing instability out of it. And today the last name of the one who wins is not so important. It’s much more important who will become the president who will defend Ukraine’s freedom, guarantee the realization of reforms, Ukraine’s course to Europe and NATO”, stressed Klitschko.
Kyiv Mayor also met with World Bank CEO Kristalina Georgieva. In particular, they talked about the continuation of cooperation in the Kyiv transport infrastructure development, which the World Bank is considering today, and the possibilities of investing in public-private partnership projects.
