Russia is trying to preserve its power over Donbas by any means while trying to break away from negotiations, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin told Voice of America.

“Russia is trying to change the tactic and break away from all the formats, they want to create an impression that whatever is happening in Ukraine is an internal conflict. And they are successful in it,” he said.

According to Klimkin, Russia is trying to save its power in Donbas by any means. “And until they refuse it, there will be no progress”.

He also emphasized that Ukraine and its allies have the same views as to the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas.

Klimkin is sure it’s important not only to withdraw Russian troops and Russian weapons from Donbas but also the Russian mercenaries.

“The logic is very simple. The mandate of the peacekeeping mission should cover all the territory of Donbas and the uncontrolled part of the border. It must serve the aim of disarmament and weapons' withdrawal,” he said.
