Ukrainian minister urges the OSCE to strengthen the pressure on Russia by the personal sanctions

Pavlo Klimkin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine spoke at the 24th session of the foreign ministers of the OSCE on December 7. He drew special attention to the issue of the Russian aggression and necessity to find the efficient mechanisms of the fights against it as the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported.

'Some people talk about the return of the cold war but Russia holds the real war against Europe and its values. This war is held by the Russian authorities without marking but with the tanks and arms at the Ukrainian land', he said.

Klimkin noted that the world community should concentrate on three directions due to this: to hold the efficient fight against terrorism and cyber-attacks sponsored by Russia; to expend the efforts to oppose the Russian propaganda and to continue the protection of the human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Ukrainian minister urges the OSCE to strengthen the pressure on Russia by the personal sanctions. According to Klimkin, the speeches of the EU, the US delegation and Austrian chairmanship began with the issue of the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

'When you hear the US and the EU on one side and Russian on another side then there is a feeling that we live at the one glove but different worlds', he said.

And he responded to the speech of the Foreign Minister of Russia.

'Lavrov said at the session of the OSCE in Vienna that the intention to deploy the UN peacekeepers in occupied Donbas is a desire to create there the occupation administration. I think that it is already there – the Russian occupation administration', Klimkin assured.

The US, Canada, Sweden, Turkey, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Estonia, Norway, the UK and Denmark stood for the strengthening of the pressure on Russia as spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry reported.

The Ukrainian delegation headed by Klimkin held the event on the human rights in occupied Crimea with the participation of Ilmi Umerov and Akhtem Chyigoz at the OSCE session.

Also, Klimkin held a meeting with his Sweden colleague Margot Wallström.

The main issue of the meeting with Wallström was the support of Ukraine by Sweden that will remain to be the temporary member of the UN Security Council in 2018. particularly, the issue is about the deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission in occupied Donbas with the uncontrolled by Ukraine part of the Ukrainian-Russian border.

The sides agreed on the necessity to use the international sanctions against Russia until the stop of the Russian occupation of the Ukrainian territories and on the inopportunity to restore Russia at the PASE without fulfillment of all resolutions adopted by the Assembly in 2014-2016 by Russia.

Moreover, Klimkin met with Kurt Volker, the US Special Envoy to Ukraine, Rex Tillerson, the US State Secretary of State.

'We discussed everything from the joint work on the UN peacekeeping mission to energy security and support of the independent anti-corruption system in Ukraine', the minister reported.
