Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov is suspected of high treason due to ratification of Kharkiv agreements. This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.
"The ex-head of government is suspected of acting jointly and by prior agreement with the former president of Ukraine, realizing that the agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on stay of the Russian Black Sea Fleet on the territory of Ukraine contradicts the Constitution and the Law of Ukraine "On international treaties Of Ukraine" committed actions aimed at the detriment of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability, defense capability, state and economic security of Ukraine," the statement reads.
It is noted that, on April 20, 2010, while visiting the Russian Federation, the former Prime Minister of Ukraine agreed on the conditions imposed by the representative of a foreign state, President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, to extend the stay of the Russian Black Sea Fleet on the territory of Ukraine for 25 years under the pretext of receiving a discount on gas.
Also, from April 21 to April 23, 2010, he ensured the approval of the draft Agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on the stay of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine and the law of Ukraine on its ratification by ministries, other central executive authorities and law enforcement agencies without actual consideration of these documents by authorized bodies.
As we reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered bill #0095 “On denunciation of agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on stay of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation in the territory of Ukraine”. The authors of the document are MPs from the Servant of the People party Oleh Dunda and Oleksandr Aliksiychuk.
According to the explanatory note, the draft law provides the denunciation of the agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on stay of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation in the territory of Ukraine signed on April 21, 2010, in Kharkiv and ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on April 27, 2010.
Kharkiv agreements are the agreement between Russia and Ukraine that the Black Sea Fleet of Russia will stay in the territory of Ukraine. The agreements signed by Dmitry Medvedev and Viktor Yanukovych in 2010 provide the stay of the Russian fleet in Sevastopol until 2042.
