The building of the Kazakhstan National State Television Channel is on fire in Almaty. No firefighters are on the scene of the fire as orda_kz reported.

"The building of the branch of the National State TV channel "Kazakhstan" in Almaty is now on fire," the report says.

It is noted that the protesters trashed the first floor of the building and set the second floor on fire.

There are no firefighters on the site at the moment.

Today, on January 5, in Almaty, the office of the Nur Otan party, which is located in the building of the Aisultan business center on Tole-bi Street, also caught fire. Firefighters could not get there as well.

It should be noted that the protesters seized and blocked the movement of fire and police vehicles. The protesters also destroyed two ambulances.

At the same time, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made a statement against the background of mass protests in the country. He said that he was assuming the post of Chairman of the Security Council, which had previously been chaired by Nursultan Nazarbayev, and "intends to act tough”.

In the beginning of 2022 protests erupted in Kazakhstan after the increase in the price of liquefied gas. Demonstrators announced an indefinite action. Demands to reduce the price of gas have grown into calls for the resignation of the president and government. The Internet has been shut down in the country, law enforcement agencies seized military equipment, make arrests. Kazakh TV channels suspended broadcasting.

After a couple of days of anti-government protests, the Cabinet of Kazakhstan has filed a resignation letter, and President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev accepted it.

However, despite the resignation of the government, on January 5, protests in Kazakhstan intensified. In the city of Almaty, during the riots, protesters stormed the administration building (akimat). Chaos reigns in the streets of Almaty. Dozens of cars were burned and shops smashed during the demonstrations in the city.
