The American state of Kansas recognized the Holodomor of 1932-33 as genocide of the Ukrainian people. This was reported in the embassy of Ukraine in the United States.

"The document, which proclaims 2018 - the year of the memory of Holodomor victims in Kansas, was signed by the governor of the state Jeff Collier," it was reported.

The embassy stressed that Kansas became the tenth US state to make such a decision. The Holodomor in Ukraine has been recognized as genocide in nine states of the USA: Washington, Wisconsin, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and Pennsylvania.

The relevant decision was taken by the parliaments of several countries, in particular Canada, Australia, Georgia, Poland, Portugal, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Ecuador, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Chile.

There were three Holodomors in the 20th century: in 1921-1923, 1932-1933, 1946-1947. The Holodomor of 1923-1933 is the only one admitted as a genocide. The events of 1921-1923 and 1946-1947 are constituted as a famine, which genocidal nature has not been proved yet.

The Holodomor lasted for 17 months – from April 1932 to November 1933. The researchers have not defined the number of victims yet. They name the numbers from 1,8 million to 10 million. Most of the experts believe that the number of victims is from 3 to 3,5 million.
