It’s better to discover that we have more in common with people than we’ve got things that oppose. Member of European Parliament Nathan Gill said this in his commentary to 112 Ukraine TМ channel on the situation with the We Need to Talk telecast initiated by NewsOne and Russia24 TV channels.
As Winston Churchill has very famously said: “Jaw-jaw is better than war-war”. It’s better to talk. It’s better to discover that we have more in common with people than we’ve got things that oppose. So I think that NewsOne has this initiative in order to allow the people of Russia and Ukraine to talk together. That sounds like a common sense to me. I’m a bit surprised that the Presidents of Ukraine would be so vehemently against this and wanted just himself be involved with any negotiations
Nathan Gill also believes that people should be allowed to express their own points of view whatever authorities agree with them or not.
“People are free to have their own thoughts and their own points of view. And they should be allowed to express those whatever we agree with them or not. And the EU has an association agreement with Ukraine,” Gill says.
Freedom of speech is one of the main principles of democracy, which Ukraine should stick to. Robert Roland, the Member of European Parliament commented on the situation with the We Need to Talk telecast initiated by NewsOne and Russia24 TV channels.
As we reported earlier, NewsOne TV channel canceled the telecast with Russia24 TV channel. The media planned the event for July 12; however, the very idea to organize and hold such event evoked a huge public outrage. Protesters came to the channel's building, enraged at the idea of holding dialogue with the Russian state-sponsored medium. As the channel's staff faced multiple threats, the telecast was canceled.
Members of the International Editorial Board of NewsOne TV channel responded to the pressure from the side of the radicals on the workers of the channel.
Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has opened the criminal case against the beneficiary owners of NewsOne TV channel. Lutsenko marked that two individuals, the directors of offshore companies are the beneficiary owners of the TV channel; according to him, they are connected with Russia's PromSvyazBank involved in funding and serving the Russian state defense order. Thus, a criminal case on funding terrorism is initiated.
