President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky informed Japanese PM Yoshihide Suga about the escalation in the east of Ukraine and build-up of the Russian forces near the border of the Ukrainian state as Zelensky’s press service reported.
Yoshihide Suga assured that Japan follows closely the development of the events and expressed comprehensive support to Ukraine.
The parties exchanged opinions on preparation for the inauguration summit of the Crimean Platform in Kyiv and further events of the bilateral dialogue at the highest level.
Zelensky invited the PM of Japan to join the events on the occasion of the Day of Independence and the work of the Crimean Platform.
Earlier, HATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg stated that Russia should immediately stop the build-up of forces at the border with Ukraine and occupied territories.
Besides, G7 foreign ministers and the High Representative of the European Union called on Russia to stop provocations on border with Ukraine and stated that large-scale troop movements, without prior notification, represent threatening and destabilising activities.
