Boris Johnson, the former London mayor and the ex-Foreign Secretary, is elected the new British Prime Minister, BBC reports.
Over 160,000 members of the Conservative Party joined the voting procedure; Johnson was definitely considered a favorite since the beginning of the campaign, standing against Jeremy Hunt, the incumbent Foreign Secretary.
Much of the attention was paid to the candidates' stance towards Brexit.
Johnson replaces Theresa May who recently left this office; she is expected to file her resignation letter for the Queen's approval on Wednesday. May said she would officially step down on June 7; June 6, she visited her last public event.
