"I think it is very sad that Mr. Medvedchuk has felt that he no longer has the opportunity, does not have the support of President Zelensky as an intermediary between Ukraine and Russia. Because, frankly, in the European Union, in Europe, we expect countries will work towards peace. And we want a dialogue. We want President Zelensky to speak with his neighbors, not to ignore them and not to neglect the opportunity to engage in dialogue and discuss the Donbas problem.
MEP David Coburn also believes that this is a very bad turn of events. "I think that this is a very bad turn of events. It will not help. It would be more beneficial if we had a peaceful solution so that everyone could get peace. This is what Europe is striving for and what satisfies everyone’s interests - Ukraine’s interest, and also Russia's interest. I think it’s necessary to put more effort into making peace. That's what’s in everyone’s interests," said Coburn.
Viktor Medvedchuk, the head of political board of Opposition Platform - For Life party, should not be representing Ukraine as the negotiating party in Ukraine-Russia talks to solve the Donbas conflict. Andriy Bohdan, the head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, said that on the air of The Right for Power, a TV show at 1+1 TV channel.
'We don't see him as a negotiator from our side. If Russia sees him as a negotiator from their side, that's their choice', Bohdan said.
He admitted that neither he, nor president Zelensky ever met or talked to Medvedchuk.
Both Zelensky and the head of his administration called Russia an aggressor country, adding that negotiations with it are necessary to bring the peace in Donbas.
