Italy wants to discuss the issue of the sanctions against Russia at the EU summit on October 18-19 as Rikard Jozwiak, Brussels correspondent of Radio Liberty reported on Twitter.
"Sanctions are still expected to be prolonged at the December EUCO but Rome might want some more EU cooperation with Russia. Unclear if others are keen on this," he wrote.
It is important that the new government of Italy makes no secret that it seeks to lift the EU sanctions from Russia.
On September 13, the EU officially prolonged individual sanctions against Russians and legal entities involved in the actions against Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Earlier Europe prolonged the anti-Russian sanctions for half a year.
Reportedly, on July 5, the EU prolonged economic sanctions against Russia till December 31, 2019. The sanctions were imposed in July 2014 as a response to Russia’s destabilizing activity in Ukraine.
Moreover, Ukraine, Montenegro, Albania and Norway claim about the intention to negotiate their national policy on the extension of the sanctions against the Russian Federation. These countries joined the decision on the extension of the anti-Russian sanctions.
