Italy declined the proposition of EU to recognize the leader of Venezuelan opposition Juan Guaido as the head of the only democratically chosen body of the power of Venezuela, Reuters reported.
“The EU countries have been discussing how to solve the Venezuela crisis for a couple of days, 10 counties have recognized the leader after the deadline ends when president Nicolas Maduro declares new presidential elections. Some EU members are worried about the situation with the self-proclaimed leader”, - the report said.
Italy has declined the EU project, according to which the recognition of Guaido is the national prerogative.
“Some EU members recognize the leader of the National Assembly as the interim president of Venezuela”, the common project suggests, calling for “free and democratic presidential elections”.
As we reported earlier, Ukraine has recognized the leader of Venezuelan opposition Juan Guaido as the head of the only democratically chosen body of the government of Venezuela, the National Assembly and the leader of the democratic opposition.
On January 23, opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself interim president. He was supported by many countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
