The Italian officials, headed by ex-MEP Giulietto Chiesa laid flowers to the memorial of the soldiers of the Sardinian kingdom who died during the Crimean war of 1853-1856. Last year, ex-PM Silvio Berlusconi and Russian leader Vladimir Putin visited the same monument.
“It’s a friendly visit, supposed to get more information for our representatives; they should know more about the actual situation in Crimea. We know that since the integration of Crimea with Russia, sanctions have been imposed against the locals. Back in Italy, they show and tell us that the situation is tragic. But we hope to see everything on our own”, Giulietto Chiesa said.
