The attack took place in response to the injury inflicted on an Israeli serviceman. On Sunday, February 17, the militants threw an explosive device over the wall on the border with Israeli-controlled territory. An Israeli soldier was wounded. In response, IDF tanks moved on to the Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian side reported that the Israeli strike resulted in wounds for nine people. Their actual condition is not revealed.
In November 2018, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry strongly recommended citizens to refrain from going to southern districts of Israel, because of the escalation of hostilities in the area. Back then, on November 12, Hamas militants launched more than 80 missiles at southern regions of Israel from the territory of Gaza Strip. As a result of the shelling, more than 50 people injured. Later, Israel paid a return air strike.
