Israel has temporarily closed the international air traffic. The restriction starts working on late Monday and will be running for a week, the local government says.
Thus, the country will be closed for visitors. In order to arrive and depart from Israel, the citizens will have to prove extremely solid reasons.
The officials explain this is the way to avoid the entry of new strains of coronavirus while citizens are getting vaccinated. The tough quarantine is supposed to be running until the end of the month.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Israeli authorities have introduced tough control measures upon the arrival. Israel is now first globally in terms of the vaccination rate. Over a quarter of population already received a dose of the vaccine. The entire adult population is supposed to be inoculated by late March.
The coronavirus-related death rate in Israel is among the lowest in the world; it makes less than one percent.
