Israel has launched the third-dose vaccination campaign for citizens aged above 30. It concerns the people who received their second shot more than five months ago, NEWSru reports.

The campaign kicked off on August 24.

The booster injection is designed for the people who were not infected and received both doses of the vaccine. The citizens who recovered from the disease should find out whether they can be vaccinated. The result depends on the period when the patient recovered and the number of injections taken previously.

According to Nitsan Gorowitz, the Israeli Healthcare Minister, when the third injection becomes available to all categories of citizens, those who refused from the third shot will be stripped off their "green passport". The Head of the Ministry reiterated that the vaccine's effect has its expire date, and the vaccine wears off in five-six months. Those who refused to get vaccinated are considered to be poorly protected against the disease.

Earlier, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO director general said that Covid-19 booster shots should be delayed as priority should be given to raising vaccination rates in poor countries.
