The leader Islamic State Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is probably alive and is now in Syria. This is reported by Al-Quds Al-Arabi with reference to the source.

"Baghdadi is probably alive and is hiding in villages in the countryside of Deir ez Zor on the Syrian-Iraqi border. Many militants flee from the cities through this region over which control in Iraq and Syria has been lost," sources said.

It is reported that al-Baghdadi still plays a key role in ISIS.
