Russian defense ministry denies information about death of Russian serviceman in Deir-ez-Zor

The Islamic State reported that their forces captured two Russian army servicemen during the fights in Deir-ez-Zor province in Syria. That was mentioned in the message by SITE Intelligence Group, which tracks the activity of ISIS militants and refers to Amaq news agency, known for close ties with the Islamic State.  

According to SITE, two Russians were captured in the western part of Deir-ez-Zor, while another Russian trooper was killed. Besides, ISIS fighters claimed deaths of another 33 Syrian army soldiers.

The Russian defense ministry denied information about the death of a Russian serviceman in Deir-ez-Zor. According to the spokesman of Khmeymim air base, all fighetrs of the regular Russian army are ‘alive and well, performing assigned missions’.

Previously, on September 24, Russian general Valeriy Asapov was killed in Syria; it became one of the most sensitive losses for the Russian army since the beginning of this country’s military campaign in Syria.
