Health Minister Maksym Stepanov stated that the introduction of a total lockdown could reduce the overall number of coronavirus cases in Ukraine to zero. He said this during an online briefing.

"From the point of view of epidemiology, the introduction of strict quarantine and the rupture of the entire chain of the disease's transmission, i.e. reducing to almost zero communication between people, is the best way, from the point of view of epidemiology, to reduce the incidence of Covid-19, well, it can be reduced to zero," said the minister.

On the other hand, the economic point of view must be taken into account. According to the official, the reason for the introduction of lockdown will be the epidemic situation and the burden on the medical system.

As we reported earlier, Prime Minister Denys Shmygal stated that the Ukrainian government could opt for a winter holiday quarantine

"Yesterday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky shared the important initiatives of support of people and business if the quarantine is boosted. Let me be clear: we're preparing for all possible scenarios, including the possible introduction of the quarantine for winter holidays," he said.
