International Tribunal for Law of the Sea to hold public debates on capture of Ukrainian sailors

The UN International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea will hold public hearings on Russia capturing Ukrainian sailors. Olena Zerkal, Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister for European Integration posted that on Facebook.

'President of International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea defined dates of hearings in the case of temporary measures against the Russian Federation, as it violated the immunity of three Ukrainian Navy vessels and 24 crew members. The public hearings will take place on May 10 and May 11, 2019,' reads the message.

Recently, the Russian investigation allowed the captured Ukrainian sailors to call home, as they still remain in the remand center in Moscow. Nikolai Polozov, the Russian lawyer reported that on his Facebook page.

'First time over five months of captivity, the investigation let the POWs call home', Polozov said.

He added that the investigation assigned another expertise for the prisoners.
