International donation organizations agreed that Lebanon, which suffered from a terrible explosion last week, will get the humanitarian assistance in the amount of 253 million Euros (298 million U.S. dollars). This was mentioned during the urgent donors' conference hosted on the initiative of French leader Emmanuel Macron, wrote Reuters.
The communique says that the “assistance should be timely, sufficient and consistent with the needs of the Lebanese people ... and directly delivered to the Lebanese population, with utmost efficiency and transparency”.
Macron's office claimed that the commitments of administering the aid will not depend on political or institutional reforms in Lebanon.
However, foreign governments demand that the Lebanese government act transparently in terms of how the humanitarian assistance is used. The fellow citizens of Lebanon claim that their own government is corrupt, and some believe there's Iranian influence on the Lebanese government. "Many Lebanese say the blast, blamed on a huge store of ammonium nitrate, highlighted the negligence of a corrupt political elite", reads the story.
