Ukrainian Ministry for Veterans' Affairs initiates the creation of the institution of Ombudsman for veterans. The Ministry's press office reported that on January 26.

There are still no mechanisms of legal protection and assistance for veterans who selflessly fought for Ukraine, the authority says.

"It is disturbing that after the beginning of Ukrainian-Russian war, the number of appeals from servicemen, volunteers, and combatants about the violation of their rights, absence of due legal assistance has grown considerably", said Minister Yulia Laputina.

The Ministry will be shaping and implementing the policy aimed at the extension of the government's capability to protect the rights of veterans. The new institution will cover a wide range of matters related to the legal protection of veterans and cooperate with other human rights institutions.
