The Ministry of Infrastructure sets a goal of 30% reduction in road accidents mortality in 2020. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Yuriy Lavrenyuk, the press center of the Ministry reports.
“We are approaching the solution of this problem on a large-scale and comprehensive basis. We have an ambitious goal - to reduce the death rate on roads by 30% by 2020,” Lavrenyuk noted.
He noted that more than 3 500 people die in road accidents annually. Lavrenyuk stressed that fewer people killed in the war in Donbas. He added that the ministry’s program provides for the construction of roads and a number of activities, the financing of which will increase.
"5% of the State Road Fund is provided for ensuring road safety. This is a considerable amount, this year 2 billion UAH, next year it will be 4 billion UAH," the official said.

He noted that circular intersections, safety islands, smart traffic lights, illuminated pedestrian crossings will contribute to reducing mortality. Lavrenyuk added that in 3-5 years it will be possible to see the implementation of the program if road construction is steadily financed.
"Yuri Lavrenyuk also said that taking into account the latest high-profile accidents, the Ministry of Infrastructure is preparing additional measures to strengthen control over licensed kinds of transportation for the Government approval," the statement said.
Earlier it was reported that in 2019 there were more than 100 thousand traffic accidents in Ukraine, in which more than 1900 people died.
