"The WilmerHale law firm has come to the conclusion that during the leadership of the World Bank, Georgieva ordered to modify the data in order to improve China's position in the international ranking Doing Business. The corresponding investigation was carried out at the request of the Ethics Committee of the World Bank," the statement said.
Kristalina Georgieva stated that the accusations against her were untrue. The Managing Director of the IMF declared her innocence during a previously scheduled meeting with the staff of the IMF. She indicated that she never pressured employees to change any data.
Many states have expressed their concern about the results of the investigation, including the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Japan. In turn, the World Bank announced that it will stop publishing the popular Doing Business rankings, which have been published since 2003.
It is noted that Kristalina Georgieva held senior management positions at the World Bank in 2017-2019, after which she moved to work at the IMF.
