If Russia recognizes the self-styled "people's republics" in Donbas as independent states, it will lead to far worse consequences for Ukraine than the similar scenarios that took place in Georgia. First Deputy Chairman of Ukraine's Parliament Oleksandr Korniyenko wrote that as cited by Novosti Donbassa.
According to the MP, if Russia recognizes the so-called "LNR" and "DNR", the situation may be compared with Abkhazian and South Ossetian scenarios, though "they were less dangerous for Georgia than it will be for Ukraine".
Korniyenko explained that in Ukraine's case, the situation will be much more dangerous and complicated due to the presence of Russian troops in Donbas.
Earlier, Michael Carpenter, the U.S. permanent envoy in the OSCE said Western governments should be getting prepared for escalation from the Russian side. “At the present time, we’re facing a crisis in European security. The drumbeat of war is sounding loud, and the rhetoric has gotten rather shrill," Carpenter stated.
