Peter Szijarto, the Hungarian foreign minister stated that Russia and Hungary agreed on the supplies of the Russian gas in 2020 - even without the agreement on gas transit between Kyiv and Moscow. This is mentioned in the message on the Hungarian foreign ministry.
According to him, Hungary can purchase part of the natural gas via Austria, like it was done this year; in addition to that, the Hungarian side can use its own gas depots.
'Today, me and Gazprom Director-General made the agreement, which stipulates that Gazprom will provide natural gas supplies to Hungary with no regard whether the transit agreement between Russia and Ukraine on the future takes place', he said.
In April 2018, Russian energy monopolist Gazprom declined the opportunity of extending the contract on gas transit with Naftogaz; only consultations would be held on this particular topic.
