The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Siyarto states that he initiates consideration of the issue of Association Agreement violation by Ukraine because of the law on education. He intends to do this at the next meeting of the Ukraine-EU Association Council. This Siyarto said on Monday in Luxembourg before the start of the meeting of EU Council on Foreign Affairs, reports Unian.
"From the time that Ukrainian parliament approved the law on education, ... in the neighboring countries of the EU there is a gross violation of human rights. They deprived all minorities of the right to use their mother tongue when receiving an education at the age of 10. This is a rude violation of human rights, gross violation of the rights of minorities, and this is a gross violation of the Association Agreement. Therefore, at the next session of the Association Council with Ukraine, we must put this issue on the agenda in order to resolve the situation, since this is very unusual," he said.
It should be noted that the next meeting of the Council of the Ukraine-EU Association is scheduled for December this year.
As previously reported, Hungary announced its refusal to support Ukraine's rapprochement with Europe until the law on education is changed. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin noted that during the meeting with his Hungarian counterpart, he explained the details of the document against which Budapest stands.
After Hungary appealed to the UN to investigate Ukrainian education law, Minister of Human Resources of Hungary Zoltan Balog appealed with the official letter to the Ukrainian Minister of Education Liliia Grynevych and asked for a personal meeting to discuss the new ‘Law on Education’. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Szijjarto claimed that the government of Hungary decided to block all further decisions of the EU that aim for the rapprochement of the EU with Ukraine due to the ‘Law on Education’.
