Foreign Minister of Hungary Peter Szijjarto called a decision of Ukraine to ban the entrance for two Hungarian officials due to the interference in the local elections ‘pathetic and nonsense’ as Reuters reported.
According to him, Ukraine made ‘unfriendly steps’ toward Hungary, calling the Hungarian ambassador and deciding to ban entrance for two officials.
“With this Ukraine sends the message ... that it has given up on Hungarian support for its euroatlantic integration efforts,” Szijjarto said.
During his video-message on Facebook, he noted that Budapest has not received yet the official notification about the Ukrainian ban.
The minister welcomed the victory of the Hungarian candidates at the local elections in Ukraine and in his opinion; it means that the opinion of Hungarians should be considered toward the future of Zakarpattia.
On October 26, Ukraine banned entry to two Hungarian officials because of campaigning in the Zakarpattia region during the local elections.
Later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine handed a note of protest to the Ambassador of Hungary in connection with the illegal campaigning of Hungarian officials for one of the parties in Zakarpattia.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry announced repeated signs of political agitation by Hungarian civil servants who visit the Zakarpattya region. The department asked for a legal assessment of this.
