OSCE SMM

Alexander Hug's recent statement about Russia's military presence in Donbas is merely the reflection of his own position; it is his personal opinion. Head of the SMM Ertugrul Apakan said that as quoted by Ukraine's first deputy parliamentary speaker Iryna Gerashchenko.

'The Ukrainian side turned to the Head of the SMM [Ertugrul] Apakan, demanding to provide the assessment of this manipulative statement, to find out whether it is a personal view of the Swiss official - and what's the official position of the OSCE", Gerashchenko said.

According to her, Apakan, in return, said that Hug's statement was a part of the text quoted in the wrong manner and, later, corrected. 'OSCE SMM's objective in Ukraine is to set the facts and report them. The facts in your reports speak for themselves. As previously, we are decisively committed to the implementation of SMM mandate for the support and normalization of the situation', the statement said.

Former deputy head of OSCE SMM in Ukraine Alexander Hug claimed he did not treat Russia as an aggressor state. He said this in his interview to the Ukrainian press.

'No. But I believe that Russia, like Ukraine, and certain districts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions recognized that there is a big problem that needs to be solved, and all of them have undertaken obligations,' Hug said to TSN TV channel.

According to him, the conflict will be resolved only when 'someone will seek to find a solution, and not try to blame others'.
