The French leader says it’s necessary to create conditions to hold the local elections in Donbas. The press service of the PACE reported this on October 11, quoting Hollande as he held a speech at the PACE’s session.
‘We should proceed in creating political conditions and security conditions that would let them hold the elections in eastern Ukraine as soon as possible,’ Hollande said.
Previously, French foreign minister Jean-Marc Ayrault claimed that as soon as the ceasefire in Donbas takes place, Kyiv should start implementation of separate provisions of Minsk agreements – specifically, the one about submitting amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the special status of Donbas, passing the law on elections in Donbas and announcing amnesty for the Russia-backed militants.
Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko stated that the elections in Donbas are impossible ‘until the Russian troops stop killing Ukrainians’.
