Deputy Minister of Health and Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko spoke about the conditions which may cause the postponement of local elections in Ukraine. He stated this during a round table "Local elections - 2020 and Covid-19”, UNIAN reports.
"Elections can be postponed only when the country introduces a state of emergency. Otherwise, the elections will be held as prescribed in the election legislation and epidemic norms approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine," Lyashko said.
As we reported earlier, Viktor Lyashko is convinced that the state bodies cannot impose strict quarantine restrictions once again.
"When we talked about March-April, we had well-timed strict quarantine restrictions. And there was no peak increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Ukraine. During that time, we prepared our health care system, and now we clearly understand that such strict measures cannot be introduced once again because they have a very negative impact on the economy," he said.
As of October 2, 217, 661 cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in Ukraine.
