Health Minister to sign decree on planned operations postponement and reprofiling of hospitals

On Monday, March 16, the Minister of Health Ilya Yemets is expected to sign a decree that will oblige healthcare institutions to postpone planned operations at a later date in order to free hospitals and be ready to help patients with coronavirus. This was announced at a briefing by Deputy Minister of Health, chief sanitary doctor Viktor Lyashko. The broadcast was conducted by 112 Ukraine TV channel.

“We understand that our main task now is to reduce the negative consequences that may occur during an outbreak of the disease in Ukraine. Therefore, we are intensively preparing health facilities, continuing to prepare, reprofiling so that the health system can accept the number of patients in case of mass illness. We have determined hospital bases for the first admission of patients, we are now actively working to restructure bed places and tomorrow the Minister of Health will sign a decree which would oblige healthcare institutions to carry elective surgery at a later date," said Lyashko.

Lyashko added that the Ministry is taking preventive measures in order to exclude the possibility of the spread of the disease in Ukraine, as the number of patients in the EU is growing.

"Therefore, everything that we do now and propose to do on the territory of Ukraine is done with the aim of prevention the situation that is happening in the EU countries," Lyashko explained.
