Dmytro Razumkov, the Head of Servant of the People party supports keeping Ukrainian as the sole state language. However, there could be a referendum on this issue. He said this in an interview with Livyi Bereh outlet.
"The party's view matches that with Zelensky's position: the only state language in this country is Ukrainian. If we're talking referendums, one has to pass the package of laws on the rule of the people, widening the norms of direct democracy. As for the language, it's a whole different story, one will have to look into it", Razumkov said.
The Head of the party, however, mentioned this issue should not be discussed before the election, as it might drive a wedge within the society.
"Can we put it on the referendum? Which format would be suitable? It is up to discussion. If we're talking languages, to a certain point, Bohdan's position relates to the provisions of Minsk agreements. If we're talking Constitution, it also states freedom for the use of all languages, including Russian", the politician said.
Previously, Andriy Bohdan, Head of the Office President of Ukraine said that the residents of Donbas could use Russian as a regional language, but there could are certain conditions for that.
