Hassan Rouhani re-elected as president of Iran

Rouhani was elected for a new term, receiving 57% of votes

Current Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has been re-elected for a second term. This was reported by IRNA state information agency.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Iran announced that Rouhani got 23 549 616 or 57% of votes, after 100% of ballots were counted.

His major opponent, Ebrahim Raisi, received 15,786 million votes.

Earlier Iranian state television already congratulated Rouhani on the electoral victory.

Rouhani won in 2013 presidential election with 51% of votes with turnout of 73%.

As it is known, voting took place on Friday, May 19. Four candidates were fighting for the post — current president Hassan Rouhani, former vice-president, Mostafa Hashemi-Taba, chairman of wealthy and powerful foundation, Ebrahim Raisi, and former Culture Minister, Mostafa Agha Mirsalim.
