Shevchenkivsky district court in Kyiv has arrested Vladyslav Manger, the head of Kherson regional council. He is now the suspect in the organization of murder of Ukrainian activist Kateryna Handziuk.
Insider reported that, specifying that the judge Oleksandr Kypcharsky announced the decision on the fourth day of the court sessions.
Vladyslav Manger will remain in detention until March 3. The court ruled that he has the right for a bail; the sum is almost USD 92,000. Thus, the jury rejected the request of the prosecution to deprive Manger of the right for a bail.
On February 11, Vladyslav Manger was served with charge papers in Handziuk’s murder. In his turn, Manger said that he would not escape from the country due to suspicion of organizing the murder of Handziuk.
On November 4, 2018, it became known that Kateryna Handziuk died at the age of 34. She was doused with sulphuric acid in July this year. According to preliminary information, her death was caused by blood clot's detachment.
Besides, the doctors specified the cause for the death of Handziuk was specified. It was due to multiple organ failure and chemical burns.
Handziuk case evoked a huge public outrage, with people demanding to find the orderer of the murder of the activist.
