Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, will go to Russia next week; the official plans to meet with the country's top leaders - president Vladimir Putin, foreign minister Sergey Lavrov and leader of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill.

'Guterres will attend the ceremony, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Russia's membership in the UN. The Secretary-General will also attend the game between Portugal and Morocco on June 20', El Nacional reports.

Before the visit to Russia, the official will go to Finland.

Previously, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she had no reason to refuse from visiting the country for the World Cup; her French counterpart Emmanuel Macron also said he would join the event.

The UK and Iceland, on the other hand, announced the boycott of the competition. Australia joined them later.

The Federation of Football of Ukraine did not buy the tickets for the tournament; no Ukrainian reporters were accredited for the competition, and no media coverage is offered by the Ukrainian side, too.
