Solution to Donbas conflict is among the steps UN expects to take throughout 2018. Yuriy Grymchak, Ukraine's Deputy Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine said this in an interview with Radio Liberty.
'UN Secretary General included Donbas conflict solution into his plan. Over the last three years, this issues has been off the agenda. And now - it's there,' he said.
He expressed hope that the occupied territories will return to Ukraine this year.
Last week, the Ukrainian parliament passed the law about re-integration of Donbas. In the bill, the Russian Federation is officially recognized as an aggressor country, and certain regions of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions as temporarily occupied. From a practical point of view, the document will have a minimal impact on the real life of the civilian population, but will change (to some extent) the modality of conducting military operations. Meanwhile, this document might become an important argument (while bringing a claim to the international courts) about compensation of the damage inflicted by the Russian Federation during the occupation.
