Russians are blamed with attempts to meddle with Greece's internal affairs and the illegal activity, which undermines the basics of the national security. The diplomats faced charges with collecting data and bribing officials.
Kathimerini added that the decision to send the Russian diplomats away is the consequence of the tensions between the two countries in the matters of regional security, which have been growing over the past two years. The sources say Greece intends to keep the good relations with Russia, however, any 'sensitive response' from Russia may only make the situation worse.
Previously, NATO withdrew the accreditations of seven diplomats from the Russian mission.
'On the contrary, we have to expand our cooperation with the EU', Putin claimed, adding that it is necessary due to the trade links.
'We are way more interested in the EU being united and flourishing because the EU is our most important trade and economic partner'.
However, Russia and the EU have a controversial opinion toward the number of the issues such as Syria and Ukraine. The West continues to extend anti-Russian sanctions, while Russia responds with the same measures.
The poisoning of ex-GRU officer also worsened the relations between Russian and the European countries; a lot of them expelled Russian diplomats, however, Austria restrained itself from such measure that makes the country a bridge between Russian and the EU.
