Friday, February 22, marks the deadline of the grace period for customs clearing of cars with EU license plates in Ukraine. This is foreseen by the laws No.2611-VIII and 2612-VIII, which set the formula for the excise duty count and the fines for violation of the transit period.

Owners of the cars with EU license plates have their last chance to perform the customs clearance. This concerns the situation when one person brings one EU-imported car with respective plates.

Today, Kyiv's customs offices will be working until 00.00 Saturday; until then, the car owners can perform the procedure for free.

The respective law took effect in November 2018, after it was passed by the Parliament. February 22 was specified as the end of the grace period.

The bill foresees that the owners of non-cleared cars will face fines for failing to observe the procedure until May 24. Until then, the owners will still have the time to fill in the necessary papers. Otherwise, they will be fined for USD 314.55.
